What is Blepharoplasty?
When you have an excess of skin on top or around the eyes that can sometimes obstruct your vision, this is called dermatochalasis. Thankfully, that can be fixed. Our team at Koch Eye Associates offers blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, to remove excess skin and lift the upper or lower eyelid. Believe it or not, it is a very common procedure at Koch Eye Associates. Many men and women undergo blepharoplasty to eliminate this condition, as well as ptosis (saggy eyelids), creating a more natural appearance to their face. We perform both lower or upper eyelid surgeries, and improvements are noticeable soon thereafter. If you want to learn more about blepharoplasty, schedule a consultation at Koch Eye Associates located in the Greater Rhode Island area.
Eyelid Surgery Reviews
"Absolutely loved my results. I had moderate to high myopia -7.00 to -7.50 in both of my eyes and I was still a candidate for lasik. The procedure is definitely a bit nerve wracking but they walk through every step as they go, and the staff is very comforting. The entire procedure is maybe 10-15 minutes, hang in there, it is so worth it. I am less than 24 hours post op and I can see almost perfectly clear. I had some burning for about 4-5 hours after my procedure, the best way I can describe it is, it felt like I had been cutting onions. Uncomfortable but not unbearable. Dr. Gerber was recommended to me by a co worker, he pleasant and put me at ease answering all my questions in the consult, I also elected to have him do my procedure as well and he was fantastic. The front desk staff and techs are also all fabulous. If you have an HSA or FSA you can use it, and my VSP vision insurance also covered 15% of the procedure. Absolutely life changing for someone with a script that was a bad as mine! A small price to pay in the long run for amazing vision."- B.R. / Yelp / Oct 30, 2020
"My daughter and I had a very good experience at Koch Eye Associates on Greenwich Avenue. From the front desk woman, who was kind and efficient, to the examination with Dr. Leblanc. I highly recommend scheduling an appointment at this office. We also interacted with Lauren, and Chris, the office manager, who were both lovely and very professional. Dr. Leblanc took time listening to my sixteen year old daughter explain some trouble she had been having with discomfort in her eyes. After a thorough examination, she made some recommended changes and ever since my dauughter's comfort level has improved. Thank you Koch! Looking forward to a long relationship!"- K.T. / Google / May 03, 2021
"Just as the July 4 three day weekend was beginning, I became concerned about a sudden change of vision in one of my eyes and, to make a long story short, my regular eye doctor (who is not affiliated with Koch) was already out of town and Koch was the only local eye specialist I reached that was willing or able to take me so late in the day - literally just before closing when there was just one doctor still in the office. Dr. Burns and the entire staff were excellent. It could’ve been a much more stressful weekend without them."- G. / Google / Jul 07, 2021
"I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Burns & Koch Eye Associates in South Kingstown. I've never had a problem getting an appointment, and all my questions are thoroughly answered by the doctor as well as the staff conducting different tests. I have a fairly complicated medical situation, with multiple issues that tend to complicate treatment. Dr. Burns has always been able to find the right course of treatment to keep my eyes healthy, and still seeing pretty sharp, especially considering my age. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Burns to any of my friends. As far as prescription glasses go, I have gotten several pair here and the last pair of wound up having scratches in them after about 4 or 5 months of wear. I brought them back, and without any discussion, or complicated processes, lenses were replaced under warranty. Couldn't ask for better service."- P.“. / Google / Nov 21, 2021

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are clients impaired by excess, hanging skin and folds that exist on the top of the eyelid, or puffy skin just under the bottom eyelid. These conditions can cause vision impairment that can hinder everyday activity. If you have excess, hanging skin on the upper eyelid, or bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can correct this to provide you with a softer, more natural appearance. During the initial consult, our team will discuss treatments based on your specific conditions and needs.
Depending on the nature of the blepharoplasty, general anesthesia or a type IV sedation will be provided. Eyelid surgery may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the bottom eyelid, or both eyelids if necessary. This is an outpatient procedure.
- Upper eyelid surgery assists in reducing the loose skin that droops down, usually impairing vision. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to remove tissue and fat. Our clients often see immediate improvements to their vision and overall appearance.
- Lower eyelid surgery is performed to improve puffy and bulging skin under the lower eyelid. In most cases, an incision is placed below the lash line to surgically remove fat and the skin is gently lifted to produce a softer look. Sometimes, a nonsurgical laser procedure may be implemented to help with discoloration while dermal fillers may be used for more volume and smoothness if necessary.
What to Expect
The procedure can take up to two hours, depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After the surgery, you will be able to go home and rest. You should plan on taking a few days to recover and avoid any strenuous activities. Use cold compresses when needed. This will assist in reducing any pain, discomfort, swelling, and bruising that may occur. The results from eyelid surgery can last a decade or even longer. Although the aging process does not stop, you may want to come in for facial rejuvenation treatments at Koch Eye Associates to maintain your youthful-looking appearance.
If you are suffering from puffy bags underneath your eyes or having a hard time seeing due to folds of skin on your upper eyelids, then you may want to consider cosmetic eyelid surgery at Koch Eye Associates. Blepharoplasty can offer a fairly quick and long-lasting solution to your vision impairment concerns while also giving you more youthful-looking eyes.
