What is Blepharoplasty?
When you have an excess of skin on top or around the eyes that can sometimes obstruct your vision, this is called dermatochalasis. Thankfully, that can be fixed. Our team at Koch Eye Associates offers blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, to remove excess skin and lift the upper or lower eyelid. Believe it or not, it is a very common procedure at Koch Eye Associates. Many men and women undergo blepharoplasty to eliminate this condition, as well as ptosis (saggy eyelids), creating a more natural appearance to their face. We perform both lower or upper eyelid surgeries, and improvements are noticeable soon thereafter. If you want to learn more about blepharoplasty, schedule a consultation at Koch Eye Associates located in the Greater Rhode Island area.
Eyelid Surgery Reviews
"I recently had my eye exam and I was very impressed that my new eye doctor took time with the exam and told me why my eyes where itching alot because of dry eye syndrome and she was nice enough to give me free samples of lubricated eye drops . Also I like to thank that nice lady Danielle for taking me right away before seeing the eye doctor she was very polite and so was the receptionist. I recommend this place to friends and family and my mother wants to go. Also, my eyes did change a little bit and I had to pick out my glasses and I really like them. Also, I received a call a week after my eye exam and they told,me my glasses were ready and when I put them on what a big difference I can see alot better. Thank you again Koch Associates I will be back next year! :-)"- M.W. / Yelp / Dec 21, 2013
"I first went to DR. Koch when lasik was new. It had to be at least ten years ago. I was so scared at first because it was something new and not knowing what to expect, everyone was so caring and informative. Now after at having perfect vision I am now starting with blurred vision. I have called for an appointment and was told that the lasik only lasts for a certain amount of time! I was never told that, but it does make sense as our eyes do change with age...will update this after the next appt."- P.G. / Yelp / Mar 31, 2017
"Patti Koch is one of the best eye doctors around. Her singsong voice will stay with you for days. Honestly. If Mary Poppin's was an eye doctor, she would be Patti. The office is always clean, has televisions and magazines out front, and the staff is warm and welcoming. You can order your contacts and glasses through this facility, and they have decent prices. As awkward as a trip to an eye doctor can be, with the puffs of air, random drops in you eyes, not being able to distinguish E from B....Patti turns the experience around and makes it a breeze. I have seen a few other doctors at this office, and haven't loved them as much (hence the 4 stars,) but will see them if Patti isn't free."- M.L. / Yelp / Jun 09, 2011
"Dr. Ireland stands head and shoulders above most of the doctors I've met in my experiences. Cataract surgery for both eyes and at 62 I now have 20 20 vision in both . Ten stars for Koch eye associates."- K.B. / Google / Apr 30, 2019
"A class act experience all the way--from the front desk, doctors and the staff assisting, I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else. They were professional at all times, and every step of the procedure was explained in detail and any questions were addressed immediately. They really know what their stuff -- I had a great experience and would recommend highly ! Karen Gorton Rodrigues"- K.R. / Google / Dec 30, 2018
Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are clients impaired by excess, hanging skin and folds that exist on the top of the eyelid, or puffy skin just under the bottom eyelid. These conditions can cause vision impairment that can hinder everyday activity. If you have excess, hanging skin on the upper eyelid, or bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can correct this to provide you with a softer, more natural appearance. During the initial consult, our team will discuss treatments based on your specific conditions and needs.
Depending on the nature of the blepharoplasty, general anesthesia or a type IV sedation will be provided. Eyelid surgery may be done on the upper eyelid alone, on the bottom eyelid, or both eyelids if necessary. This is an outpatient procedure.
- Upper eyelid surgery assists in reducing the loose skin that droops down, usually impairing vision. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to remove tissue and fat. Our clients often see immediate improvements to their vision and overall appearance.
- Lower eyelid surgery is performed to improve puffy and bulging skin under the lower eyelid. In most cases, an incision is placed below the lash line to surgically remove fat and the skin is gently lifted to produce a softer look. Sometimes, a nonsurgical laser procedure may be implemented to help with discoloration while dermal fillers may be used for more volume and smoothness if necessary.
What to Expect
The procedure can take up to two hours, depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After the surgery, you will be able to go home and rest. You should plan on taking a few days to recover and avoid any strenuous activities. Use cold compresses when needed. This will assist in reducing any pain, discomfort, swelling, and bruising that may occur. The results from eyelid surgery can last a decade or even longer. Although the aging process does not stop, you may want to come in for facial rejuvenation treatments at Koch Eye Associates to maintain your youthful-looking appearance.
If you are suffering from puffy bags underneath your eyes or having a hard time seeing due to folds of skin on your upper eyelids, then you may want to consider cosmetic eyelid surgery at Koch Eye Associates. Blepharoplasty can offer a fairly quick and long-lasting solution to your vision impairment concerns while also giving you more youthful-looking eyes. We invite you to call our office in the Greater Rhode Island area and schedule a consultation with our experienced team.
