Dr. Alexandrou completed his undergraduate work at Indiana University, Bloomington, obtaining a baccalaureate degree in Chemistry and Biology. He was then awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Following medical school, Dr. Alexandrou completed his medical internship at the University of California San Diego and then completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago, where he became Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. His fellowship training in Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery took place at the University of California San Diego. Dr. Alexandrou's professional interests include laser vision correction, corneal and cataract surgeries. His research has resulted in many published manuscripts and abstracts, as well as presentations at national meetings. Dr. Alexandrou recently co-authored the "Sports Eye Injuries" chapter in the third edition of Albert and Jacobiac's Principles and Practice of Ophthalmology (Saunders, 2008). Dr. Alexandrou is a native of Ohio, where his parents settled after moving from Samos, Greece. He is fluent in Greek and enjoys traveling there to visit family members.

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state of the art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, or cornea disease. The Center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient in mind. The entire process from initial examination to final outcome is conducted in a pleasant comfortable environment.

After a patient decides to have surgery, he or she is assigned his or her own Surgical Counselor who is available to answer questions and provide assistance. These individuals are specially trained to assist the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, including follow up care for as long as necessary. Patients are encouraged to contact their counselor for any questions, no matter how simple or complex.
