Meet Dr. Burns

Kristen Burns, O.D. is a primary care optometrist at Koch Eye Associates, a Claris Vision company. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Rhode Island Optometric Association. Dr. Burns is a native of Rhode Island where she currently resides. When she is not in the office, she loves spending time with her family, traveling, boating, paddle boarding, and snowboarding.

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Burns specializes in the treatment and management of ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, and the pre- and post-operative co-management of cataract and refractive surgery patients. She also regularly sees patients for comprehensive eye exams to screen for any ocular abnormalities and provides glasses and contact lens services.

Education

Dr. Burns graduated with honors from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular cell biology. She received her doctorate of optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA and graduated with distinguished honors as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society. While earning her degree, Dr. Burns completed extensive externships. These included the South End Community Health Center in Boston, MA, the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Providence, RI, Ocean State Eye Care in Warwick, RI, and Newport Naval Health Center in Newport, RI.

"I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Burns & Koch Eye Associates in South Kingstown. I've never had a problem getting an appointment, and all my questions are thoroughly answered by the doctor as well as the staff conducting different tests. I have a fairly complicated medical situation, with multiple issues that tend to complicate treatment. Dr. Burns has always been able to find the right course of treatment to keep my eyes healthy, and still seeing pretty sharp, especially considering my age. I have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Burns to any of my friends. As far as prescription glasses go, I have gotten several pair here and the last pair of wound up having scratches in them after about 4 or 5 months of wear. I brought them back, and without any discussion, or complicated processes, lenses were replaced under warranty. Couldn't ask for better service."

"Marc from Wakefield RI.I am So thankful for all the staff at Koch eye in Wakefield RI. I was seen this morning on an emergency basis for removal of some sand embedded in my upper eyelid. The reception staff at the front recognized how much pain i was in and expedited getting me into an exam room where i was quickly given drops to decrease the level of discomfort I was in, while i waited for Dr. Burns. Once Dr. Burns came in, she quickly and professionally found the problem and was able to remove the stone. Now at home I am pain free and so happy that the local office was there to help."
