Dr. Alex Gerber is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He completed his undergraduate studies cum laude at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2001 earning a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. He then pursued his medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine receiving honors in genetics. He went on to do his residency at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Queens, New York, where he became a chief resident. During his one-year fellowship at Koch Eye Associates, he received extensive training in cataract surgery, LASIK and other types of refractive surgery under the supervision of Dr. Paul Koch. Dr. Gerber has been a speaker at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. His past work has been published in medical journals and he serves as one of the leading investigators in clinical trials ongoing at Koch Eye Associates. He has a strong interest in the most innovating and new techniques in his field as well as new technology, and he is fluent in Russian.

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state of the art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, or cornea disease. The Center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient in mind. The entire process from initial examination to final outcome is conducted in a pleasant comfortable environment.

After a patient decides to have surgery, he or she is assigned his or her own Surgical Counselor who is available to answer questions and provide assistance. These individuals are specially trained to assist the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, including follow up care for as long as necessary. Patients are encouraged to contact their counselor for any questions, no matter how simple or complex.
