Vision Correction

Testimonials

At Koch Eye Associates, we offer many options to improve your vision and lead a better life. Laser Vision Correction is a phrase used for a number of treatments physicians can perform with lasers to reshape the cornea and to help restore vision compromised by nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Lens Implantation is the implantation of a lens inside the eye to correct moderate to extreme near or farsightedness -- or this method of correction may be used for those with corneal conditions who do not qualify for laser vision correction. After these treatments, most people no longer need to wear glasses or contact lenses. The remaining few experience an improvement in vision without glasses or contact lenses, but may still need to wear glasses or contact lenses for some tasks. Laser vision correction does not eliminate presbyopia, or the need for reading glasses, so in some patients, reading glasses may be required after treatment.

Choosing the method that is right for you can only be determined after a comprehensive eye examination. From your examination and consultation, a specific recommendation can be offered to best help you select the safest, most effective solution to your vision problem.

LADARWave™ CUSTOMCORNEA®

Lens Implantation

Visit www.visioninfocus.com

For very nearsighted people, procedures like Custom LASIK may not be an option, leaving you stuck with thick glasses or contact lenses -- until now. The Verisyse™ Phakic Intraocular Lens (IOL) provides "precision vision", a high-tech, yet simple procedure that not only can improve your vision, but also your life.

Verisyse™ is proven to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness. The procedure involves placing the Verisyse™ IOL inside your eye to provide high-quality, high-definition vision without the need for glasses or contacts in most situations. Although Verisyse™ is intended to be permanent, the micro lens can be removed if necessary.

If you are very nearsighted and tired of contact lenses and thick glasses, and at least 21 years of age, you may be a candidate for the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL. Your doctor will perform a series of tests and discuss options with you to help you decide if you meet the criteria for having a Verisyse™ procedure.

For more information about the Verisyse™ Phakic IOL, please visit www.visioninfocus.com

Introducing CrystaLens™, the first and only accommodating IOL. CrystaLens™ works like the eye's natural lens to allow most patients to see images that are near (inside 16 inches), intermediate (between 16 and 36 inches) and distant (36 inches and beyond), without glasses. The CrystaLens™ received FDA approval in November 2003.  Koch Eye Associates was the clinical site in New England for the CrystaLens™ and is very happy to be able to offer this exciting new technology now to our patients.  The CrystaLens™ is a cataract replacement lens that works naturally with your eye muscles, resulting in the quality of vision you had when you were younger.

Visit www.staar.com

The STAAR intraocular contact lens, or ICL has been recommended for approval by the FDA Advisory Panel. The STAAR ICL is a soft, foldable implant, which is placed behind the iris and in front of the crystalline lens through an incision so small that the wound heals itself. Recovery is complete within 72 hours for the vast majority of ICL patients.

More information on the lens can be found at www.staar.com

Another option for those patients who are presbyopic and are at the stage where they either need or are wearing bifocals is PRELEX, (or presbyopic lens exchange).  Using modern microsurgical techniques, your eye's natural non-focusing lens is replaced with a new multifocal lens, allowing you a wide range of focus, just like when you were younger.

Clearer vision can be a reality for you. A fuller, more active life is awaiting you.

We highly recommend you visit one of our offices for a free screening and let us determine if you are a qualified candidate for LASIK or another refractive procedure.  During the screening, we will be able to give you more specific information and answer any questions you have.  You will also have the opportunity to view a comprehensive video on LASIK.  The screening will only take about 20 minutes and we offer morning and afternoon appointments at the 566 Tollgate Road location.

You may also stop in at the Koch Eye Laser Vision Center in the Providence Place Mall, Level 1, Cityside, no appointment necessary. This office is open during regular mall hours and Refractive Surgery Coordinators are always available to do a screening, answer your questions, and perhaps schedule the

TESTIMONIALS FROM OUR PATIENTS

"How do I thank you for such a gift? I am 34 and do not remember a time when I didn't wear glasses.  Today I was able to look in the mirror and see myself for first time WITHOUT GLASSES!  I've worn them every day of my life since Kindergarten. ..I thank you from the top and bottom of my heart."

"We just wanted to drop an overdue line of thanks to you and your wonderful staff for the excellent care we received at your office.  We have both gotten such terrific results from our surgeries and are very happy with our vision.  Thank you so much for changing the quality of our lives.  We are eternally grateful."

"Thank you very much for performing the LASIK procedure on my eyes 2 weeks ago. The results have been truly remarkable. For the first time in 15 years, my vision is perfectly clear without my glasses. I feel and look so much better, and have more confidence playing sports and, most particularly swimming with my children. It was an episode about a month ago when I couldn't see my 6-year-old son in the pool that made me decide I should have the surgery done. .....I am relieved to know my kids will be much safer under my supervision when we go back."

Myopia (nearsighted)

Images are focused in front of the retina if your eye is elongated, or your cornea has too much focusing power, creating a blurry image when looking at something in the distance. Over 25% of people in the U.S. have this condition.

Hyperopia (farsighted)

The opposite of myopia, the hyperopic eye is either too short or does not have enough refractive power to focus on the retina. The images focus on a point beyond the retina, creating a blurry image when looking at something up close.

Astigmatism

Look closely at the photo. The cornea is more steeply curved. The astigmatic cornea is curved more in one direction than in another, causing light rays to have more than one focal point on different areas of the retina, blurring and distorting objects both close up and in the distance
