Background
Stefanie Schuman, MD, is a retina-trained ophthalmologist specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and research of macular diseases. Her clinical practice focuses on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases. She is experienced retinal surgery including laser photocoagulation as well as intravitreal injections. She has done research on innovations in pharmacotherapies for wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and vein occlusions.
Dr. Schuman graduated summa cum laude from University of Tennessee and continued her training at University of Tennessee Health Science Center where she attended medical school. She then moved to New England for Ophthalmology Residency, which she completed at Tufts/New England Eye Center. There, she completed studies on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). She continued her training in Medical Retina at Duke University Eye Center in Durham, NC where she was involved in numerous clinical studies, including imaging of the retina and new treatments for macular degeneration. She is dedicated to improving the vision of each patient, and educating her patients on their ophthalmic disease.
Dr. Schuman currently sees patients in our Warwick and Woonsocket offices. She performs laser surgery at both these locations, and performs intravitreal injections at the Warwick office.
