Michael Negrey, MD

Michael Negrey, MD, is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in the treatment of cataracts, corneal disease and refractive surgery. He joined Koch Eye Associates in 2005. 

Dr. Negrey was born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated with a bachelor of arts cum laude from Colgate University in upstate New York in 1995. Prior to medical school, he investigated cancer treatments for one year at the Kimmel Cancer Institute in Philadelphia. He completed medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 2000 where he won the Carroll B. Mullen Award for Excellency in Ophthalmology. He did his internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Returning to Philadelphia, Dr. Negrey trained in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital. There he revised and updated the “Imaging in Ophthalmology” chapter for the Wills Eye Manual 4th Edition, which is used by eye care providers throughout the country. After residency, Dr. Negrey was awarded a one-year fellowship in Refractive Surgery, Cornea and External Disease at the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Since completing his fellowship, Dr. Negrey has been working at Koch Eye Associates where he utilizes his extensive training by offering cutting edge treatments for cataract and corneal disease. The procedures he performs include laser vision correction, no stitch cataract surgery, tissue sparing corneal transplants, laser treatment of glaucoma, and minor surgical procedures of the eyelids. In addition, he provides comprehensive eye exams to patients of all ages. 

Dr. Negrey currently sees patients in our Warwick, Woonsocket, Johnston, and East Lyme offices. He operates at St. James’s Surgery Center, East Lyme Laser Vision Center, Kent Hospital, and Landmark Medical Center. At Kent Hospital, he is involved with teaching ophthalmology to medical students. 

Dr. Negrey and his wife reside in Providence. He enjoys outdoor activities including soccer, skiing, and golfing and ran the Boston Marathon for its Charity Programs in 2003 and 2004, raising nearly $6000.
