Corneal Disease Warwick and Woonsocket, Rhode Island

CorneaThe cornea is the clear front “window” of the eye, responsible for focusing light through the pupil and lens and onto the retina. Normally crystal clear and dome-shaped, the cornea can become cloudy or misshapen as a result of injury or disease, thereby greatly reducing vision.

At Koch Eye Associates, Dr. Terry Alexandrou, M.D. specializes in cataract and keratorefractive surgery. From preforming corrective surgery to creating a comprehensive treatment plan, Dr. Alexandrou and our entire staff will work with you to ensure the best possible outcome.

Common diseases and conditions of the cornea include:

  • Infection
  • Ocular Allergies
  • Dry Eye Syndrome
  • Keratitis
  • Ocular herpes
  • Herpes zoster (shingles)
  • Corneal dystrophies (keratoconus, Fuch's dystrophy, map-dot-fingerprint dystrophy, etc.)
  • Pterygium

Many corneal problems are curable, and the ones that aren't are often easily managed through medications and other treatments. Some symptoms to look out for that may indicate corneal disease include:

  • Redness
  • Irritation
  • Extreme light sensitivity
  • Pain
  • Blurred vision

Here are Koch Eye, our highly trained doctors are experts in preventing, diagnosing and treating corneal diseases and conditions. If you are suffering from one of the conditions above, or think that you may have a problem with your cornea, the first step is to schedule an appointment with Koch Eye.

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state of the art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, or cornea disease. The Center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient in mind. The entire process from initial examination to final outcome is conducted in a pleasant comfortable environment.

After a patient decides to have surgery, he or she is assigned his or her own Surgical Counselor who is available to answer questions and provide assistance. These individuals are specially trained to assist the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, including follow up care for as long as necessary. Patients are encouraged to contact their counselor for any questions, no matter how simple or complex.
